“A breath of fresh air!”
"Faunoran cottage in Crathie is a "wee gem!" Situated in a stunning part of the world, this little cottage has everything one could need for a relaxing and special stay. The cottage has been very thoughtfully furnished - it has everything you need. There are so many walks in the surrounding area we were spoilt for choice. The only problem was running out of time to do them - next time we will stay longer! The owners Hans and Dawn are very helpful and kind - we benefitted from the fruits of Dawn's vegetable garden with fresh new potatoes, onions and courgettes! All in all highly recommended."

“The cottage was a quaint, quiet place to rest.”
It's a great location for hiking and other activities in the mountains. The cottage itself is located in a peaceful, isolation place so that rest is easy. The weather was beautiful in July, sunny and warm but never too hot.

“Delightful Cottage Getaway”
The cottage was very clean and well appointed when we arrived. The fireplace was even set for a fire had we chosen to have one. There are two bedrooms upstairs along with a full bath. On the main floor is a half bath, living room/ dining room combination room and the kitchen. The living room had many, many board games along with a TV. The kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans, and cutlery etc. There is a washer/dryer in the kitchen and a clothes line in the backyard should you want to dry clothes on a line instead. The backyard is beautiful - part stone wall and part wooden fence - outline the property.

The cottage is within a mile of Balmoral Castle and Lochnagar Distillery. Braemar and Ballater are approximately 8 miles away (one to the east and one to the west). The area is full of hiking and biking trails and the owners of the cottage had great trail suggestions.

What you need to know - the owners of the cottage live in a house next to the cottage (shared driveway) and the church hall is directly in front of the cottage. The owners were great about asking if we needed anything (when they saw us outside) and were great guides for the area. The church hall had a coffee and sweets fundraiser on Monday morning and it was a great way to meet people. Otherwise you are in the country - sheep are you neighbors and the WiFi is sketchy at best (although it is available at cafes in both Braemar and Ballater).

If you are looking for a relaxing getaway or a home base for hiking/biking than this is the place for you.

“Excellent”
This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location with some friendly owners next door. Hans and Dawn were very welcoming and accommodating and also really helpful in giving information about the local area. And the local area is gorgeous.
The cottage has a cosy sitting room, large bedrooms, a nice modern bathroom and a big garden. Recommended!

“Faunoran Cottage - Crathie”
A lovely cottage in a fantastic location, perfect as a base for walking and cycling trips, both Hans and Dawn were great as they are based next door and both always able to give advice on good places to visit.
I'd happily go back and would recommend this for any traveller of any age.
